This course introduces students to principles of biology with emphasis on evolution, the organization and diversity of living things, and their ecological relationships in the biosphere, including human impact on ecosystems. Topics include: ecology, evolution, and a survey of diverse forms of life.
Students will gain experience with team work and get involved with the experimental method by planning and carrying out investigations, using laboratory techniques and data processing software, engaging in argument from evidence, and will present their findings by means of lab reports following scientific communication standards. Students will also connect what they learn about ecology to current environmental issues in an attempt to suggest solutions that would promote environmental sustainability.
