Course
Description: In
this introductory course, students will learn to identify small animal breeds
and how to care for them at a basic level, with emphasis on environmental
enrichment. They will learn to recognize normal or aggressive animal behavior
cues and how to respond appropriately. Students will restrain small animals for
various procedures using low-stress techniques. Using basic GPE instruments,
they will perform brief student physical assessments in order to prepare them
to do pre-consultations in later courses. Students will identify various
housing requirements, including those particular to shelter medicine. They will
also learn to follow safety guidelines.
